This is my essay on why Kataang is going to happen and why Zutara was a bad idea in the first place. A warning, I will be harsh against Zutara, so please, don’t say how bad I said it was, because I am speaking my mind here. It aint that long.. But I just wanted to say something… Tell me what you think!
Kataang.
Katara shares the strongest bond with Aang. Out of all the characters, Aang is the one that Katara never gets angry at. She never shouts at him, or shows any hint of anger towards him. She was the first person Aang saw when he awoke from his sleep. When he saw her, he fell in love straight away. Yes, Katara may not have felt the same way at the beginning, but as the story develops, her bond grows stronger, and soon she will admit her feelings.
Just like Aunt Wu said, her lover would be a very powerful bender, and Aunt Wu is always right. Yes, Zuko is a powerful bender, but when he comes face to face with a battle against Aang, Aang is always the one that wins. Aang is much capable of more powerful bending, and he is more powerful than any bender in the series, he just doesn’t use it a lot, because he has big respect for all human life, and unless people are threatened with death, he will never use his power to his full extent. He is just like a Shaolin Monk. They can defeat any other martial artist, but they don’t, because it is against their belief.
The kiss. The one we’ve all been waiting for. When Katara said she had something to say, you know she was going to say she loved him. But, she got nervous and just said she was proud. With all the things they’ve been through, why wouldn’t she. She wouldn’t kiss Aang’s cheek at the end of almost every adventure for nothing would she? Of course not. She seemed confused at the start of the kiss because she had no idea that Aang felt the same way she did, so it was confusing.
Yes, Aang may have to let go of her before he becomes a fully realized avatar. But remember Avatar Roku? When he was young, and did not know he was an Avatar, he saw the girl of his dreams, and fell in love with her. By then, you can tell that they loved each other straight away. When unlocking the seven chakra, Roku when through the same process. Aang’s bond with Katara is too strong, and after unlocking the seventh chakra, and becoming a fully realised avatar, he will still love her.
Zutara: For all the wrong reasons.
Zutara. That relationship. When we think of Zutara, we think of it as a joke. At lease us Kataangers do. First of all, the only thing in common the two have is the loss of both their mothers. After so long, do you think Katara and Sokka’s mother would still be alive? Maybe, but it is doubtful. Sadly, I must come to the conclusion that Katara and Sokka’s mother may be long gone. The Fire Nation knows that she is the mother of the Avatar’s best friend. They know they will come looking for her, so something terrible must have already happened to her by now. Ursa, on the other hand, is still alive, and there is the speculation that she is with the White Lotus. She is still alive, and she can still go looking for Zuko. If she is with the White Lotus, then Iroh would have told her everything about what has happened to Zuko, and she will be proud. Once the Fire Lord is defeated, Zuko will go looking for his mother on his own, that is unless they find her before that. He will be very happy, and would have no time for his love life. He will want to spend all that time he lost with his mother. Apart from the fact that Zuko will not fall in love with Katara at all. Never.
I can’t begin to imagine why people would want Zutara to happen. Pardon me, but in my opinion, its just plain rubbish. Katara basically hates Zuko. Why would she want to get to know Zuko? Sure, she will get used to his presence in the coming episodes, but she will still hate him, because he was the one of the main causes of the loss of Ba Sing Se, and he knows it. She doesn’t even want him there. She only agreed because Aang wanted him there. See? Because of AANG. If she didn’t have any feelings for Aang, then of course she would try to agree, but she would suggest that it is a bad idea. Yes, she would still have a strong bond with Aang, but she wouldn’t do what he wants, she would do what is best for him, because she knows what is best. Yes, maybe because he is the Avatar, and she has to agree. No, she doesn’t. She is perfectly capable of speaking her mind to anyone, that includes Aang. But because of her growing love towards Aang, she chose to agree.
When Zuko was waiting for Katara’s opinion, he was sweating. You can tell he is scared of her, and wouldn’t even consider falling in love with her. He wouldn’t want to. They would talk, but they will never be friendly with each other. Maybe Zuko, but not Katara. Once Zuko hurts Aang once, even accidentally, his chance from Katara is gone, and Katara will never forgive her. Of course, we wouldn’t want to see Aang get hurt, of course he wont get hurt. He will be extra careful. But what about what happened to Toph? He is still his arrogant self, and he still can be careless, so it will take some time for him to realise that no one is going to hurt him unless he provokes them. I am not saying he will hurt Aang, but merely suggesting that Zuko might be careless, because if he hurts Aang, then his chance to restore his family’s honour his gone.
These are my opinions, and I’m sorry if I was harsh against Zutara, but I said I would, and the things I am saying have to be said. I’m not entirely sure if this essay is strong enough to back up Kataang, but I hope it has made you think about what has been said.
