I think the friendship part plays a very important role in the shipping, since it shows a pattern which Zutara-shippers don't take into count. They say that love isn't the main thing in the story line and they do actually have a point, though, friendships are something completely different. The show is actually based a lot on it.
I think Zuko and Aang's friendship is the coolest of them all. It has another deep, which I like, and when comparing Katara and Aang's relationship with it, I get the feeling that Zuko will "take" her place as best friend. It feels more natural, even if they have been enemies for so long. Katara is more like a girl friend to Aang than a best friend, in my opinion. I have never seen a girl behaving like she do for a "friend" and I probably won't either. It's just to face it that their relationship has become something completely different from what it was from the beginning.
KatAang FTW!!! ZukAang-friendship FTW!!! Well said... though I don't know if Zuko will take the place as "best" friend. Friend definently, but best friend is a stretch in my opinion. lol

I wrote a bit weird, there. Sorry for that.

I agree w/ 4nations. Zuko will be a friend, but not a best friend. I think kataanwill still happen, but there will be a bigger zutara vrs. kataang problem

eh....since Katara basicly hates Zuko's guts I think Zutara chances are very small (coughnonexistantcough) but I guess anything is possible

Although, I agree Zuatara chances were always slim. Things tend to happen!
Not meaning to bash Kataang shippers, but you guys have deal with the fact things can happen that can change everything. I hope it doesn't come down to, ever if, Zutara actually happens that some Kataang shippers might really stop watching Avatar all together.
I'm not saying it'll happen or anything like that, but some people will actually stop watching or reading something if one drastic thing happens. Like when I was reading Death Note, L died in the middle of the series, book 7 out of 12, and I totally dropped it in till a month later.
So I'm a little afraid of how devoted you Kataang people are. What if Katara dies, would you guys stop watching Avatar? Don't use the excuse that they wouldn't kill off a main character, L was a main character in Death Note in till they killed him off just to be replaced! Oh my, what if they replace Katara!?! ~starts to hyperventilate~

Well.. If Katara dies then I would still watch the show. But it would be sad to see how upset Aang will be. Strange, I had a dream last night that Aang kissed Toph before going somewhere.. That was the only Avatar dream that I have ever had.. And weird, considering I'm Kataang..
Anyway, yeah, I wouldn't just drop out... Once I start to watch a show that I get addicted to, I will continue watching it no matter what happens.. Except for spin offs. It depends on how good it was. This is the case with Megaman. I loved watching the original series, the EXE, AXESS, STREAM and BEAST.. Then, I found out that they were stopping the EXE series all together, including the games, I was very sad.. Then stupid Capcom make a spin off called Megaman Star Force. I watched a bit, but it just isn't as good as the old Megaman..
I don't know about you guys, but thats my "two cents" as some people put it... Never used that quote before.. two cents...

The thing you call drastic is almost the same as random. You even admit that it has become a very distant outcome of how the shippings will be, in the end, and that shows it doesn't have any real hope left. KatAang has existed during the whole show and nothing will change that. Not even death managed to part them and all the struggles they have done are not something that will be flicked away just because of a "drastic" event. The only thing we can get from Zutara is a friendship and nothing else.
Zutara doesn't even stand a chance when starting to make some good analyzes on the show. It never existed and will never do that either. End of story.
Katara won't die. That is something completely riddiculous to even consider. She would live till she got old. That's what the fortune teller told her and I don't believe it was a lie. Nothing that she said, will not come true. The creators of the show wouldn't have put in all the episodes with KatAang just to crash them all, in the end. That's not what a good story writer would do. It's against the nature of all story telling.

Sorry peeps, but for Knight-san I had to repeat that. So you think they won't kill her off, Knight-san? Well, you guys can think so for all I care... They wouldn't kill anyone off with out a good reason it would be bad writing. I actually think someone will die (idk why i just have a feeling...bad feeling go away) I really don't think it would be Katara who dies because the all Avatar mag said "Katara will either end up with Aang or Zuko" so inorder for that to come true Katara has to be...alive.
also about your point about not watching the show if Kataang crashed, heck yeah i would still watch Avatar it's the greatest show in the history of forever (Avatar made me realize everything else on TV is stupid)
I have a feeling if anyone would die it'd be Zuko (no don't die Zuzu DON'T DIE) i don't know why i think this and i hope i'm wrong

I'm sorry I want that feeling to go away, it's just that on the interview with Mike, Bryan, and the guys who's directing the live action movie (on the season 2 box set). The guy asked how the series was going to end of course they whisper it in his ear (stupid people....but i love um) anyways in the backround it had Zuzu screaming
I don' want Zuzu to die, otherwise I wouldn't get to call him Zuzu NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *featile possiton*

I'm just preparing for the worse! ~prepares for the worse~ Are you even serious that I used that as an excuse? Pathetic. She is too important in the story line to be completely removed. There is reasoning and there is speculation. Your idea of Katara being killed is not logic in any single way. They have even said in the show that she won't die until she is old and then you should also be able to believe that. The fortune teller was not a fraud and so far, nothing has gone against this path, which means that it will be a part of the final ending of the story. I can also put up other things too, which explains why she is not supposed to die, but if you still think that she will, I'm not going to reply more on this. It's too riddiculous to even waste time arguing about.
Why do you even compare "Death Note" with "Avatar"? Let me tell you this straight and clear: They... do... not... have... the... same... story... line. Keep that in mind.

Your right, but you know, the creators can always change the story line... Killing off Katara would make the whole series really weird, but in a way, make more people watch it, because people want to know what is going to happen to Aang and how is going to take it.. I don't want it too, but in TV, anything can happen. LainLawliet-chan is right. We should prepare for the worst.
