She smiles at that. - He sweeps her off her feet. Literally!
Chapter 2: The Avatar Returns - She almost runs away with him and abandons her tribe. - He says he'll miss her, and that he likes her. - She cries when he's taken away. - Sokka calls Aang her Boyfriend, which she quickly denies. (Confidence in him, possibly bragging about him slightly?) - Another hug.
Chapter 8: Avatar Roku (Winter Solstice, Part 2) - She begs Aang not go into the Fire Nation, saying, "The world can't afford to lose you to the Fire Nation. Neither can I." It sounds like she's close to tears. -She hugs him at the end as they fly away.
Chapter 9: The Waterbending Scroll - When Aang starts learning Waterbending from Katara, he compliments her, thinking she's a great teacher. - Katara realizes that she hurt his feelings when she yelled at him, and immediately apologizes. - Aang laughs at all of her jokes, no matter how lame. X3 - They congratulate each other when Katara finally figures out the Water Whip, much to Sokka’s annoyance.
Chapter 10: Jet - When Katara suggests that Aang should be the “Leader”, she smiles really cute. - They make fun of Sokka’s instincts together. - Katara says that “Well, he's great. He's the Avatar.” - Aang takes the hat that Katara made for Jet. X3
Chapter 11: The Great Divide - He shows a deceptive side... and she digs it...
Chapter 12: The Storm - Despite the possibility of her getting hurt in the storm, she flies out in to it just to find Aang. - Deep conversation in a romantically lit cave. - Again, she calls him out of the Avatar State, but to a smaller degree. - When Aang starts beating himself up for leaving, she comforts him, saying that it was “Meant to be.”
Chapter 13: The Blue Spirit - Once Katara shows a sign of getting sick, Aang takes off to find a cure. - Aang is being shot at and he still tries to get a cure for Katara and Sokka, which slows him down, instead of getting away. - Katara is worried about Aang not being back yet, and even talks to herself about it. Chapter 14: The Fortuneteller - He makes her a necklace. (Later we find out that in water tribe custom, making a necklace and giving it to the girl you love is a symbol of engagement.) - Sokka says jokingly “Smoochie, smoochie! Someone’s in loooove!” and Aang looks positively embarrassed. - He realizes he likes her as more than a friend. - She gets a prediction that involves her marrying a powerful bender, which Aang overhears. - He expresses excitement at the thought of marrying her some day. - Aang is absolutely disappointed when Aunt Wu initially that there was no love in his future, and he became incredibly happy when he was told that their was. - First attempted confession, which she doesn’t seem to hear at all. - He wants Sokka's advice and approval. - Even Meng realizes that Aang loves Katara. - At the mention of Sokka saying that Aang is a powerful bender, she realizes he might be the one.
Chapter 15: Bato of the Water Tribe - Before Aang leaves off on his own, Katara stops to wish him luck. - He fights restlessly to get her necklace back from Zuko. - First time she kisses his cheek.
Chapter 16: The Deserter - After he hurts her, he vows never to Firebend again, despite the fact that the fate of the world hinges on it. - She heals his arm.
Chapter 17: The Northern Air Temple - She wipes her eyes on his tunic. - She puts her hands on his shoulders.
Chapter 18: The Waterbending Master - He refuses to learn from Pakku for her sake, despite needing to learn Waterbending. - He cheers for her when she’s fighting Pakku.
Chapter 19: The Siege of the North (Part 1) - She comforts him when he comes back from fighting the ships. - She fights to protect him from Zuko.
Chapter 20: The Siege of the North (Part 2) - She cries when she wakes up and finds him gone. - She's able to see him as a spirit, despite it being impossible. (Strong spirit connection, perhaps?) - He can sense her presence when she's standing behind him. - They don't need to say anything. They have a deep, silent understanding of each other. - Third hug.
[glow=green,2,300]Book 2: Earth[/glow] Chapter 1: The Avatar State - Touches his shoulder and comforts him after his nightmare. - She says she loves him. - She can't bear to watch him hurt himself. - When he thinks she's hurt or dead, he goes into the Avatar State. - She holds him, and he tells her that he hopes she never has to see him in the Avatar state again.
Chapter 2: The Cave of Two Lovers - Another indication that he's actually in love with her. - She suggests kissing him as a means of escape, but blushes as she says it. Also, there's hope in her voice and her facial expression, suggesting that she really does want to kiss him-- and not just because it might get them out alive. - When Aang says “If it was a choice between kissing you and dying…!” Katara seems genuinely offended. - He wants to kiss her, but just gets all confused about it instead. - Possible kiss - When the crystals light up, you see them holding hands, their fingers laced together. - Hug. - She blushes as she reflects back on what they (almost) did.
Chapter 3: Return to Omashu - As they're running from Mai, Aang puts his hand on her shoulder and ushers her ahead of him. - When he comes to the refugee camp and says he couldn't find Bumi, Katara hugs him.
Chapter 4: The Swamp - When Aang is chasing after his vision, he runs straight in to a surprised Katara. - When Katara tells them that she saw their mom, Aang looks worried about her.
Chapter 5: Avatar Day - Aang seeks the advice of fellow Chin Village prisoners about how to court Katara.
Chapter 6: Blind Bandit - Katara gives Aang the reassuring shoulder touch before roughing up the two Earthbending students to learn about Earth Rumble 6. - Throughout the episode she helps Aang out with Toph.
Chapter 8: The Chase - Katara attacks Azula from behind in order to save Aang, even though an angry Azula coming after you means a certain death. Chapter 9: Bitter Work - She expresses jealousy at Aang calling Toph Sifu. - She consoles him. - She tears up when he calls her Sifu.
Chapter 10: The Library - Katara has an entire Library of priceless information, and she looks up information on past Avatars. (Obsessed much? XD)
Chapter 11: The Desert - She tries to keep him calm about Appa through the majority of the episode. - When the “Friendly Mushroom” appears, she wonders out-loud if Aang is alright. - When Aang goes in to the Avatar State, she just stands there while everyone else runs away, as if knowing that he would never hurt her. - Again, she holds him and calls him out of the Avatar State.
Chapter 12: The Serpent's Pass - Katara helps him fight the Sea Serpent even though he told her to make sure the others were safe. - Katara misses happy Aang, and goes up to him, concerned. She tells him "I know sometimes it hurts more to hope, and it hurts more to care, but you have to promise me that you won't stop caring." She then offers him a hug and is really hurt and sad once he turns her hug down and walks away. - Aang finally sees that being strong isn't storing his feelings away, so he tells this to Katara first, of course. He then adds in that the family's love didn't just remind him of his love for Appa, but his love for her. - She cries and they share a hug. - Aang thanks Katara specifically for everything before flying off to Ba Sing Se.
Chapter 13: The Drill - When Aang and Katara figure out Sokka’s “get drill schematics” plan, they grin at each other.
Chapter 14: City of Walls and Secrets - She touches his shoulder twice. - He blushes twice when he sees her - He tells her she looks beautiful, only to be hit by Sokka. - She smiles and almost says something back before Toph interrupts her.
Chapter 17: Lake Laogai - Aang shows jealousy at the suggestion that Katara should kiss Jet. (Big change from the way he acted in the episode Jet.) - When Katara is mourning, Aang puts a comforting hand on her shoulder, bringing her in to a group hug.
Chapter 18: The Earth King - Aang is momentarily distressed about the prospect of all of them splitting up. - Second attempted confession, Sokka interrupts, and Katara looks somewhat confused/annoyed. - Hug. - Second time she kisses his cheek. - When Aang and Sokka are flying away, Sokka says that when he gets back, Suki is waiting for him. Aang adds dreamily: “Yeah, girls are waiting for us.”
Chapter 19: The Guru - We see that one of the things he fears most is her dying or being hurt. (Flashback to The Avatar State.) - We find out that the thing he's most ashamed of, and his biggest disappointment in himself, is burning Katara in The Deserter. When he tries to release this shame, it isn't released as effectively or as easily as the other chakras were-- with the exception of the seventh, of course. - We find out that the love between the two of them is, in fact, the reincarnation of the love he shared with the Airbenders. (OMG, most romantic thing I've ever heard.) - He confesses his love for her to Guru Pathik. “Why would I let go of Katara? I… I love her!” - At first he refuses Pathik's instructions, and doesn't see any compelling reason to choose cosmic energy over his love for Katara. - Though he eventually agrees to try to let go of her for the greater good, a vision of her in danger causes him to choose attachment over the crucial inner balance, and he rushes off to save her despite the ominous consequence of losing the Avatar State entirely.
Chapter 20: The Crossroads of Destiny - When arguing with Zuko, she knows that Aang will come to rescue her. “Oh wait. Let me guess. It's a trap. So when Aang shows up to rescue me…” - When he finds Katara in the catacombs with Zuko, he shoots him a nasty look over her shoulder. (Possibly jealousy, possibly just the usual disdain.) - Two hugs in the catacombs. - She tells him she knew he would come for her. - When he thinks that, by a horrible twist of irony, the only way to save her is to let her go, he looks absolutely heartbroken, but knows he has no choice. - Katara begins to cry as she watches his corpse falling, and is suddenly filled with incredible power, which dominates all in her path so she can catch him before he hits the ground. (Possible story parallel. In The Avatar Returns, he hears her voice calling him and, instead of drowning or freezing himself again, he is filled with amazing strength and the will to fight.) - After she catches him, she looks down at him numbly, then up at Zuko and Azula advancing on them, but is either too shocked and horrified to react, or no longer cares what happens to her. - On Appa, she holds his lifeless body in her arms for a moment before lying him down, taking out her spirit oasis water, and attempting to revive him. - She cries and holds his body when she thinks it hasn't worked. - He wakes up in her arms and they exchange significant looks of relief and love. (DEFINITE story parallel. He wakes up in her arms in The Boy in the Iceberg. Everything-- the positioning of their bodies, the camera shot sequence-- is nearly identical, with the exception of the hug.) -She hugs him, and though he is too weak to lift his arms, his smile implies that he still cares about her. This seems to indicate that he hasn't actually given her up. - She holds him as he rests.
[glow=red,2,300]Book 3: Fire[/glow] Chapter 1: The Awakening - Once Katara learns that Aang was awake, she quickly hugs him. - She compliments his new hair. - She puts her hand on Aang's shoulder, and then he takes it off smiling at her. - Katara wants a bit of privacy to talk to Aang, so she harshly tells her father to leave them alone. - She helps him up to their healing room. - Aang remembers that she's the one that saved his life, and he proclaims: "You saved me..." only to be followed by Katara putting her hand on the side of his face. - Katara automatically tries to comfort Aang when she realizes that he feels like he's failed. - She cries about Aang leaving them behind, saying "I know the world needs him but doesn't he know how much we need him too?!" - She compares Aangs leaving to her father leaving. - When the Gaang finds Aang on the Crescent Moon Island, she slides along the ground and hug/glomps him. - ..Then they look at each other all cute-like: Click!
Chapter 2: The Headband - When they're getting new clothes, Aang is unsure about stealing them. Then Katara says "I call the silk robe!" and Aang changes his mind. - When Katara asks how she looks in her new Fire Nation clothing, Aang smiles and blushes while rubbing his head nervously. - When they split up at the meat shop, Aang and Katara wave at each other. - Toph says “Who knew twinkletoes could dance?” and Katara looks out at him dancing and smiles. - Sokka says that Aang and On Ji look good together and Katara shows jealousy. “Eh. If that’s what you like” and watches them sadly. - When Aang asks Katara to dance, she tries to decline nervously while playing with her hair. - Aang simply says “Take my hand” and Katara accepts with a happy “Okay.” - As Aang and Katara start dancing, she realizes that the other kids are watching. Aang grins at her and says “Don’t worry about them. It’s just you and me right now”, which Katara blushes at. - The most amazing dance sequence ever is shared between these two! It’s a fantastic mix of bending movements and acrobatics. (You have to see it to know what I’m talking about!) - During their dance, close to the beginning of it, their faces come incredibly close together, as if they are going to kiss. But they just smile at each other and continue. - At the end of their dance, there is a close-up of their last stance. They are sweating and smiling at each other. Click! - As the Gaang is flying away, Katara kisses him on the cheek and he blushes.
Chapter 3: The Painted Lady - When the Gaang learns about the polluted river from Doc, Aang and Katara look at each other sadly. - After Katara and Sokka’s argument about helping the town, Aang says that they should just “get what they need and go” and he smiles at her. She looks at him and smiles back. - When Aang is chasing after “The Painted Lady”, he hits a pole. Katara looks back at him, her expression showing that she’s a bit worried and sorry. - Aang tells the Painted Lady that she’s pretty, although he didn’t know it was Katara at the time. - At this, Katara looks at him and laughs nervously, simply saying “Thank you…” - Aang thinks that it’s great that Katara went through so much trouble just to help some people.
Chapter 4: Sokka's Master - Jokingly, Aang made fun of Katara's hair. Self-consciously, she thought he was being serious and got all worried about it. Aang tries to calm her down quickly when he realizes that he did something wrong.
Chapter 5: The Beach - When Aang gets done with his fight with the Combustion Man, he jumps back on Appa and he and Katara cling very close together.
Chapter 6: The Avatar and the Firelord (Most of the evidence in this episode were parallels between Roku and Aang) - Young Roku's attempts to talk to Ta Min paralleled Aang's nervousness towards Katara. - Roku's past showed that it's possible for an Avatar to both perform his duties and have relationships.
Chapter 7: The Runaway - The Combustion Man captured Katara to try and get to Aang. - When in the wooden jail cell, Toph realizes that everything was a trap for Aang, and Katara looks immediately worried for him.
Chapter 8: The Puppetmaster - When Toph says that she hears something, the other three huddle together. But, even as Sokka lets go, Katara and Aang remain clinging to each other. - When Katara freezes Aang to the tree when he’s controlled, she says sorry to him. - Both Aang and Sokka comfort Katara when she's called a 'bloodbender', but Aang is closer.
Chapter 9: Nightmares and Daydreams - Katara is worried about Aang’s sleeping habits throughout the entirety of the episode. She even asked him to “Get some sleep. For me?” which he quickly tries to comply to. - During a daydream of his, Aang imagines himself confessing his love to Katara. In this daydream, they kiss twice; the first with Katara surprised due to Aang taking the initiative, and the second they both fall in to it. - Katara lays Aang down to sleep on the sheep-fleece bed they made for him. - Katara watches over him as she's waiting for him to sleep.
Chapter 10: The Day of Black Sun; The Invasion and The Eclipse - When the submarines come up for Air before the battle starts, Katara and Aang have a nice chat. Katara tell him that she’s seen him grow up so much, that he’s not the goofy kid she met in the iceberg anymore, that she’s proud of him, and he blushes at that. - Aang asks “What if I don’t come back?” and Katara, who believes in him, tells him of course he’ll come back before getting cut off by… - Aang boldly kisses her. She is surprised by this at first, all muscles tensed, but then she slowly relaxes and actually leans in to it slightly. - When the kiss breaks off, Katara’s lips are stick puckered and she blushes, blinking at him as he backs away, frowning only slightly. - He opens his glider and flies off, and she turns to watch him go. She stands on the top of the submarine, blushing, only to be snapped out of it by Sokka telling her they need to go. - When Aang comes back from the Fire Lord’s palace the first time, she is the first one to notice, "distracted" as Hakoda says. - Aang comes back from the Fire Lord's palace a second time, and again she's the first one to realize it. - As the Gaang +some are about to leave, Katara comforts a crying Aang. She even stands with him when he addresses everyone and apologizes.
